Located 50 miles southwest of Birmingham and 95 miles northwest of Montgomery, the seven county area known as West Alabama has a rich heritage and a progressive spirit. West Alabama is positioned where the Appalachian Mountains meet the coastal plain and the Black Warrior River and has become well known for its recreational activities as well as its significant economic growth over the past few years. The abundance of lakes, rivers and hunting area throughout the region make it perfect for a recreational getaway or a relaxing vacation.

Fishing in West Alabama
Alabama offers 47 reservoirs that cover over 551,220 acres, 23 State Public Fishing Lakes, and over 77,000 miles of perennial rivers and streams. Whether you are looking for a relaxing day on the water or want the thrill of catching a largemouth bass, West Alabama is the perfect place to enjoy the sport of fishing. Although best known for its world class bass fishing, West Alabama also offers anglers the challenge of fishing for other species including catfish, bream, crappie, and many more. No matter what type of fishing you are looking for, West Alabama is a great place to cast your line.

With more than 1.75 million whitetail deer within the state's boundaries, and the longest deer hunting season in the country, it is easy to see why Alabama has become a favorite setting for deer hunters. Alabama offers 108 days of deer hunting annually and allows hunters to harvest a buck and a doe everyday of the season in most areas. Hunters in Alabama can gather deer using a bow, crossbow, muzzleloader, modern gun, and even a spear. Visiting the hunting reserves of Alabama is a must for all avid deer hunters.
