Little River Canyon, Suicide and Upper Two Section

Little River slices a memorable canyon down the length of Lookout Mountain east of Fort Payne. The upper half of the canyon is known by two names, one paranoid and the other utilitarian. The Suicide section was considered just that in the early 1970s. It has several class V rapids and has become the best-known expert level whitewater in Alabama. The Upper Two is the last two miles above Eberhardt's Point. A sign on the side of Hwy 176 along the canyon rim marks the Upper Two trail. Both of these runs have spectacular canyon scenery in a geographically unique setting. Challenging rapids include Terminal Eddy, Mammoth Rock, Avalanche, Cable Falls, Pinball, Roadblock, Humpty-Dumpty and Deep Throat. This is whitewater only for the seasoned paddler – undercuts, pin spots and other hazards abound.
