Pioneer Days at Rikard's Mill
Nov 1-2, Beatrice Pioneer Days at Rikard's Mill 251-575-7433. www.tokillamockingbird.com. Admission charged. Rikard's Mill--This is a unique opportunity for students and adults alike to see demonstrations of skills and crafts from the past, such as blacksmithing, mules grinding sugar cane, and corn milling at the 1845 water-powered grist mill. There will also be candle making, cooking demonstrations, basket weaving, nature hikes and more. Schools groups and large groups must call to schedule. 9 a.m.-noon.

Cane Syrup Makin' Day

Watch a 20th-century mule-driven cane mill and furnace make cane syrup as in olden days. Stone ground grits and cornmeal will be available. The syrup will be ready by 1 p.m. with a limit of 1 jar per person. Local food vendors will be on site. 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
