10th Cavalry "Buffalo Soldier's" Memorial
In 1866, Congress passed legislation establishing two cavalries composed of African-Americans. After Spanish-American War, the 10th U.S. Cavalry was ordered to Camp Forse in Huntsville.

Funky Pirates Jazz Band
The Funky Pirates Jazz Band plays the music of New Orleans and features some of the finest jazz musicians in the Huntsville area. All of the musicians that perform with the Funky Pirates are also full-time professional musicians with the United States Army Band. The Jazz genre has absolutely exploded over the past 100 years to encompass all forms of music. The Funky Pirates Jazz Band specializes in early jazz like you would hear on the streets of New Orleans in the 1910’s and 20’s. The Funky Pirates also mix in newer jazz, funk, hip-hop, r&b, rock, and other modern influences all with an early New Orleans flavor. The Funky Pirates Jazz Band has been featured in venues in New Orleans and the Southeast, but is based out of Huntsville, Alabama. funkypiratesjazzband.com Concerts on the Dock is a family friendly event that is always FREE from 6-9 p.m. every Friday night from April to October.
