Demopolis

Demopolis is located in west central Alabama at the confluence of the Black Warrior and Tombigbee rivers. Settled in 1817 by exiles from Napoleon's court, Demopolis today features antebellum homes and a historic business district.

  • Bluff Hall

    Built 1832 by slaves. Corinthian columns grace drawing room. Restored one-room log house on grounds. Museum gift shop, Canebrake Craft Corner next door. Historic house museum.

  • Demopolis Yacht Basin

    Full-service marina. In-water and dry storage for boats. Restaurant and motel on-site.

  • Foscue Creek Park

    Public boat landing ramp; tent and trailer camping area; 54 sites; comfort station; sewer hookups; 50 Amp service; drinking water; picnic areas and bank fishing.

  • Gaineswood National Historic Landmark

    A typical antebellum mansion. Domed ceilings, ornate plasterwork, columned and galleried rooms, original furnishings, folklore and special programs. National Historic Landmark owned by Alabama Historical Commission.

  • Laird Cottage/Geneva Mercer Museum

    Restored c. 1870 residence/cottage with Greek Revival/Italianate style. Museum houses history and works of Geneva Mercer, artist, sculptor and Marengo Co. native.

Downtown—Enjoy tours of historical homes, the Alabama State BBQ Cook-Off on Friday night, a “Jingle Bell Run,”day parade on Saturday, along with “Fair in the Square,”arts, crafts and food, and the famous night parade with handmade lit floats that parade down the Tombigbee. This night ends with a fireworks show. Fair in the Square: Sat.,7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., nautical parade 6:30-8:30 p.m.
