Little Savannah has won the hearts of its Forest Park neighbors and others, not only because of its glowing reputation becoming one of the best new restaurants in Birmingham, but certainly another reason to come is to meet the husband/ wife owners Chef Clifton and Maureen Holt. The space is chic and but worth the wait. Be sure to call ahead for reservations. When you walk through the door of Little Savannah, not only will you find true Southern Hospitality, but an incredible fusion of the Taste of the South and cuisine from other countries. Chef Clif creates a typical dish of Fried Green Tomatoes and adds a Poblano Chili and Sweet Corn Salsa. To a low country dish of Shrimp and Grits, Chef Clif will add an apple-smoked bacon vinaigrette, fresh thyme with button mushrooms. There are homemade pies in the house, but they are really good at making specialty martini’s like Chilton County Peach Margaritas and Watermelon Mojitos. Being a native of Cullman, Alabama (there is really something in the water)…Chef Clif came originally to Birmingham to pursue a career in engineering and architecture but discovered a love for food and for people. He eventually found work as an apprentice under Frank Stitt at Highland’s Bar and Grill, where he learned his trade, and met his wife Maureen, who at the time was the Maitre D’ at a sister restaurant, Bottega. On Wednesday, there is a half-price wine list, patio seating, and a three-course tasting menu for $35. On Thursday, there is live music and a late-night menu.
