Poor Fair Good Excellent Extraordinary

Alabama’s colleges and universities are vital contributors to the state’s nationally known visual arts, and this juried exhibit showcases the innovative work those art teachers are creating. Art of the State – open to full- and part-time studio art faculty at public and private two- and four-year Alabama colleges and universities -- shows the direction of Alabama art among those who teach it. Nandini Makrandi, curator of contemporary art at the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga and assistant professor of art history at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, is the selections and awards juror. The Tennessee Valley Museum of Art hosted the first Art of the State juried exhibition in January of 2010, and the work submitted was so exceptional that the museum decided to develop and organize a biennial event offered to other museums and institutions for exhibit. The 2012 exhibition is scheduled at four venues throughout the state
