DeKalb County Fiddlers Convention
Fort Payne | De Kalb County
Aug 4, 2012
The DeKalb County Fiddlers Convention began in 1908 and until the Second World War was among the largest and most prestigious event of it's kind in the southeastern USA. The current convention revived the tradition six years ago and today is considered significant, drawing contestants from around the Southeast to "Celebrate the Heritage" of the original. The event is sponsored by the Big Wills Arts Council in Fort Payne, Alabama to support its local arts in education program and to continue the preservation of a musical heritage including a tradition of Sacred Harp, Old Time Fiddle Music, Southern Gospel and Convention Style Singing, and Country Music ranging from the Classic Hillbilly style of The Louvin Brothers to the sound of today's super group, "Alabama."
