Director's Invitational

The Shelby County Arts Council is proud to host the Director’s Invitational Art Exhibit. This exhibit features artwork by the Shelby County Board of Education – Art Educators. The artwork presented will be in a variety of media. The opening reception will be held Sunday, January 15, 2012 at the Shelby County Arts Council gallery at 104 Mildred Street, Columbiana, Alabama. Each year the Arts Council features the works of our area public school art educators as a tribute to the work they do every day in the classroom. Art Educators nurture the creative spirit of the children of Shelby County. Each day they strive to uphold the position of the State of Alabama’s Department of Education on Art Programs: “The languages of the arts are universal and elemental parts of the human experience. Arts education is a fundamental component of the complete education of every Alabama student. Through participation in a quality comprehensive arts education program, students engage in a variety of activities that address multiple learning styles, cultivate multiple intelligences, develop higher-order thinking skills, and generate self-esteem and positive emotional responses to learning” . (Alabama Course of Study: Arts Education) We consider it an honor to celebrate the talent of the Art Educators in Shelby County for their commitment to educating our children. We invite the public to visit the gallery during regular gallery hours.
