Sucarnochee Folklife Festival
Livingston | Sumter County
Apr 21, 2012
The annual Sucarnochee Folklife Festival celebrates the work of traditional artisans, storytellers, songwriters and musicians. In past years well-known artists like renowned storyteller, Kathryn Tucker Windham and recently deceased blues legend, Willie King have performed regularly at the Festival, allowing younger generations the opportunity to witness their disappearing art forms. Artisans from basket makers to metal casters carry out their work in full view. The public may see and even take part in the intricate work it takes to ply these time-honored trades. A week of activities features performances of traditional folk music, storytelling, craft demonstrations, a walking ghost tour, a cornbread cook-off, and the Sucarnochee 5k River Run.
