The Alabama Fire College is home of the Alabama Firefighter Memorial. The Alabama Joint Fire Council, made up of representatives from the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs, the Alabama Firefighters Association, the Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments and the Professional Fire Fighters Association of Alabama unanimously agreed that a monument should be erected to serve as the official memorial to honor fire fighters of Alabama who have given their lives in the Line-of-Duty and to pay tribute to those fire fighters who heroically serve with pride, courage and honor. Afterwards, on June 11, 2003, The House and Senate of the Alabama Legislature passed a joint resolution designating the Alabama Firefighter Memorial as the official fire fighters memorial for the State of Alabama.A relief of the monument is located in the East Wing at the State Capitol in Montgomery. The memorial serves as a symbol of gratitude to the men and women of the fire service who risk their lives every day to protect the people of Alabama. The Joint Fire Council also agreed that the monument should be placed on the beautifully landscaped grounds of the Alabama Fire College in Tuscaloosa and that a relief of the monument be placed in the East Wing at the State Capitol in Montgomery. The memorial will be an original bronze work of art consisting of a life-size fire fighter in full protective clothing performing fire extinguishment. After the events of September 11, we feel even more that the States' Fire Service deserves a memorial honoring those who have served so courageously, said Dwight Graves, Chair of the Alabama Joint Fire Council. The memorial features a Walk of Honor and includes the sponsorship of personalized bricks to allow fire fighters, families and friends of Alabama's fire service to be recognized and become part of the memorial. The Memorial's design limits the number of bricks available. To purchase a brick or to find out more information on the Alabama Firefighter Memorial.
