Chateau Toots

Bed And Breakfast

$99 & up.

Those seeking a romantic getaway or simply a place to escape to for some relaxation, quietness and pampering don't have to look far to find what they want. Chateau Toots, a bed and breakfast, located in Fayetteville, Alabama on Lay Lake, officially opened in April 2007. Owners John and Mona Bargerhuff have spent much time working on the chateau, which Mona refers to as a labor of love. Chateau Toots is a serene lakeside bed and breakfast with five luxurious accommodations, which makes for the perfect secluded setting for an intimate romantic event of any nature or even a business or leadership retreat. Nestled in the heart of Alabama, Chateau Toots is the ideal setting for an engagement, wedding, honeymoon or anniversary getaway in addition to team-building and networking. Transform this amazing Chateau into your personal waterfront estate for a truly distinctive wedding weekend. A dedicated staff member will help to accommodate all of your wedding wishes, as well as plan activities and excursions for your guests from among all that Lay Lake has to offer. The Chateau offers to meet any theme of wedding desired. The swimming pool and coy pond area make for a beautiful day or romantic evening wedding, with candlelight being offered for the latter to establish a romantic setting. The Bargerhuffs are happy to offer any kind of themed weddings including a Cinderella or medieval theme. They will strive to make whatever theme the couple has in mind become a reality for their big wedding day. For the more adventurous, less traditional, there is a hot air balloon service that could take the couple over Lay Lake and drop them off at a dude ranch drop zone in Chelsea, where they could then be brought to Chateau Toots by horse and wagon to say their nuptials there. A stay at the Chateau will surely provide an opportunity for the perfect proposal of marriage. The staff will be happy to make any necessary arrangements to help fulfill that special moment. Escape to your own world on your honeymoon by immersing yourself into the environment which represents class and sophistication. Celebrate an anniversary with a meal of sentimental favorites. But don't stop there. Chateau Toots is also ideal for business, team-building, leadership retreats, milestones, parties, family reunions, etc. The list goes on and on. The possibilities are endless. The peaceful serenity of the lake front property makes this Chateau the ideal location for your next business meeting or corporate retreat. They have a facility which will accommodate conference sessions from five to forty guests. The Castle Keep in the basement is more than 1,200 square feet and can comfortably fit up to 40 people banquet or classroom style. The Chateau offers impeccable service that will allow meetings to run smoothly and productively. The only thing they overlook is a breathtaking view of Lay Lake. No place in Alabama (or, in fact, the world) can offer this kind of pleasant experience. Lay Lake offers sporting activities year round from its pro bass quality fishing, to miles of open boating, water sports, to nearby shopping in quaint Historic Childersburg, as well as antique shopping in Chelsea. Guides can also be arranged for special hunting and fishing excursions. The Chateau is conveniently located only minutes from the renown Farm Links golf course. As the premier bed & breakfast in Alabama, the Chateau provides an amazing natural setting and a wide variety of spectacular interior spaces. Have the rolling lawn tented for a festive open air event. Gather in the intimacy of the Great Room or formal Dining Area for a cozy rehearsal dinner. Customize your event with special menus. Request your favorite homemade cookies on each pillow at turn down. Pamper your guests with in-room massages or manicures. The staff will be happy to make all necessary arrangements for a seamless overnight event. Nearly every room of Chateau Toots offers a stunning, breath-taking view of Lay Lake, and each room features its own unique theme or decoration style. Each room reflects the thoughts and careful time that went into decorating it. Sir Gene's Room, named after John's dad, who died in 1996, includes a late 1800's French antique inlayed walnut bed and a standard size Perfect Day Mattress by Serta. It includes beautiful linens and tapestries, two early 1900 French inlayed marble top nightstands, antique plank oak hardwood floor and Tiffany style lamps. Beyond these decorations, the room includes a picture window overlooking property grounds, access to the lake front patio, a private bath with whirlpool tub and a lovely granite counter top. Lady Gwendalyne's Suite is named after Mona's sister, Glenda, and represents her personality, with bold colors and simple-stated luxury. The suite features a king size hand carved solid mahogany four poster bed, king size Perfect Day Mattress by Serta, numerous antique pieces, gorgeous linens and tapestries, antique plank oak hardwood floor, large bay window with an amazing view of Lay Lake, private entry to the lake front patio, whirlpool style tub for two, a separate nine-head shower system, private water closet and luxurious granite counter top. The bathroom wall is textured with tissue paper, adding a unique look and feel to the room, which also features an impressively painted ceiling, done in a mahogany-colored paint with stain done in the center. The bathroom also features ornate-styled water heads and faucets. The two upstairs rooms are French's Room and Prince Edward and Charles Room. These rooms can be booked individually or together as a pair to make a private suite. These rooms share a common bath and library/parlor. The view from both rooms is stunning, with each one overlooking Lay Lake, the swimming pool and coy pond. French's Room was named after John's grandfather, who is deceased. Prince Edward and Charles Room features two twin size beds, Extra Comfort Serta mattresses, antique spreads with matching candle topper curtains from the ceiling, carpeted floor, access to the lake front patio, granite counter top in the bathroom and a large whirlpool tub. All rooms also include comfortable robes and slippers; plenty of large thick towels; hair dryers; gentle glycerin soap, lavender moisturizing cream, body building shampoo and conditioner and moisturizing body scrub; complimentary bottled water, juice and soda; nightly turn-down service at 7 p.m. with chocolates on pillows and wakeup service available. The ground floor features a great room, or large living room, that offers a gorgeous view of the lake, in addition to a dining room area and main kitchen, where guests can gather to relax and chat. A creaky door lends itself to a castle theme as guests go downstairs to the basement, with hand-painted walls made to look like those of a castle. The basement area is called the castle keep and includes a gaming room. The stair handrail and fireplace in the castle keep are made of limestone. The area includes a second living room and kitchen area. This castle-themed basement also features some hand-painted wall murals by the gaming area, which features a pool table. The second living room also highlights a touch of local history with an actual still that is on loan from local resident Gene Hurst. From this room, all guests also have access to the chateau's swimming pool and coy pond. The Bargerhuffs also have a boat and will offer cruises to guests. Additionally, they offer mountain bike rentals to guests. With advance notice, they also offer manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing, having hair and makeup done and a masseuse for guests to be pampered and relaxed. When there are major events going on in areas such as Birmingham and Talladega, they will also offer their guests transportation to and from those events. "Safety is a big thing for us," Mona said. She added that they would rather transport guests to the event than have them drive in an area they are not familiar with. As a highlight of the importance safety plays at Chateau Toots, security is offered to allow guests to relax even more comfortably. In addition to a large gate at the chateau's entrance, there are monitors set up with cameras keeping a check on all of the main rooms. Future plans for the Chateau include hosting a book club, English tea parties, opening a portion of the property for high school seniors to have their portraits done and hosting a garden club at the chateau. No matter what the occasion may be, Chateau Toots offers a relaxing, peaceful atmosphere for all its guests, helping them to feel cozy and at home. "It's a peaceful place, with plenty of room to sit, read, relax, think and get out on the water," Mona said. Guests can enjoy viewing the hand-painted wall murals in some rooms, done by Birmingham-native artisan Stephen Ardovino, who is self-taught. Chateau Toots does have a pet policy in place for allowing guests to bring their canine companions with them at a $50 per pet, per night charge. They will receive a dog bed, bowls for food and water, morning and nightly treats and a special welcome gift. The pet policy in its entirety can be found online. Mona said they hope the bed and breakfast will be a casual environment for guests to enjoy. "We want everyone to come eat and be happy," she said. Nightly rates for rooms start at $200 and can go up to $375 per night based on the seasons. Rates for securing the entire property are adjusted seasonally and include rooms, tax service, gratuities and three meals a day.
