Tallassee, first called Talisi by the Creek Indians, is a city on the Tallapoosa River, found in both Elmore and Tallapoosa counties. The city is located in the densely forested Emerald Mountains, a small southeasternly chain of the Lower Appalachians, and has a population of nearly 5,000.
