It was located near one of the first Swift lumber mills. The home with its extensive gardens was occupied by the family until 1976, at which time it was purchased by Nick Coles, who was passionate about its preservation. The home was bequeathed to the Baldwin County Historic Development Commission and today is operated by the Commission and the Department of Archives and History of Baldwin County.
