Akron Boys and Girls Club II
Akron | Hale County
Built by The Rural Studio, which famously teaches its architecture students to build structures made from scavenged materials for impoverished clients, this club features a big recreation area. Sheltered by a rolling wave of a roof, it’s supported by an ingenious early-1900s structural technique called lamella, with a high-tech-looking triangular frame fashioned from low-tech wood. It was selected by Travel and Leisure as one of the most beautiful buildings in the world.
