Conecuh River

Sometimes as adventurers, we like to really get away from it all and do a full weekend overnighter on a long stretch of isolated river trails. The Conecuh itself flows from Point A Lake just north of the put-in, all the way past the Florida state line, a distance of close to 80 miles. Well, maybe you can run that length some other weekend, but not this time. Depending on your proximity to the river, you might not even have to get up early to accomplish the section described here. Once on the water, it should take just about two and a half hours.

Like all of Alabama's remote paddling trails, the Conecuh serves up much natural splendor in the form of diverse flora and fauna, and fabulous geological formations. What types and how much of what you'll see depends on the time of year, and sometimes pure luck, but not knowing exactly what might come up is part of the fun. During the short excursion, brilliant wildflowers burst into sight; fish, frogs and turtles jump and plop; colorful birds perch and soar; and feeder streams gush in over rocks and falls.

The makeup of the river bottom, banks and waterfalls range all the way from sand and mud, to clay, hard rocks and boulders.

Most definitely, this stretch of the Conecuh River offers a lot to see in a little bit of time.
