Navy Cove

Poor Fair Good Excellent Extraordinary
Located just about 3 minutes east of historic Fort Morgan and 20 minutes west of the beach playground of Gulf Shores is a terrific spot for boaters of all kinds. Navy Cove is a scenic place located on the beautiful sandy Fort Morgan peninsula, bordered on the north by Mobile Bay and on the south by the Gulf of Mexico.

Not too many years ago, this place was rather remote, usually bypassed by tourists heading to see Fort Morgan. More recently, several condos have sprung up, allowing many people to stay and enjoy the beauty presented by both the Gulf and Mobile Bay. A nearby marina has also been constructed, increasing powerboat traffic in the vicinity. Still, a paddler can reach destinations that a powerboater can only dream of, and there are plenty of these spots around Navy Cove.

Before putting into the waters of the cove, take a quick look around you for a landmark. This will give you a target for your return. It's amazing how much different things look on the way back from the way they looked on the way out.

After launching, where you paddle is up to you. Make sure you get close to or into the grassy marshes of St. Andrews Bay, where you're sure to see several of the hundreds of species of birds present on the peninsula, and where jumping fish abound.

Most of all, enjoy your time in these stunning seashore surroundings. And if you are in the area for more than just the paddling trip, make sure to visit Fort Morgan, ride the Mobile Bay ferry, and play in Gulf Shores, where there's so much family fun to be had; mini golf, go-cart tracks, bungee jumping, deep-sea fishing, parasailing... you name it. Get out there; you'll be glad you did!
