Retail Destinations

Why settle for a typical “mall” when you could visit a veritable Shangri-La of shopping? Alabama is home to landmark retail destinations that easily justify their own weekend getaways.

The Wharf

Orange Beach’s half-mile-long boardwalk of boutiques and beach stores includes a 15-screen movie theater, the Southeast's tallest Ferris wheel, an amphitheater and some mouthwatering restaurants.

The Summit Birmingham

Perched on a hilltop with incredible views of Central Alabama, The Summit offers dozens of exquisite shopping selections such as Saks Fifth Avenue, the Apple Store and Belk. The dynamic restaurant scene includes foodie favorite Flip Burger, run by celebrity chef Richard Blais.

Bridge Street Town Centre

If you’re in North Alabama, don’t miss the luxury and outdoor beauty of Bridge Street Town Centre, Huntsville’s high-end shopping destination. After you’re done browsing, enjoy an adult beverage and Hollywood’s newest blockbuster in the 21-and-over section of Monaco Pictures.

The Shoppes at EastChase

Montgomery’s open-air shopping hub offers a diverse mix of shops and eateries, creating a fun experience for every member of the family.

Riverchase Galleria

Beneath a nine-story glass atrium featuring the world's largest skylight, you'll find more than 200 exquisite shops, luxurious lodging and fine dining at Birmingham's Riverchase Galleria – Alabama's number one retail destination and one of America's most unique shopping experiences.

Flea Markets and Second-Hand Stores

When does shopping feel more like treasure hunting? When you’re exploring the unique second-hand stores of Alabama.

Visitors come by the busload to Unclaimed Baggage in Scottsboro and Boaz. And it’s easy to see why. America’s lost luggage ends up at this unique destination, making it a perfect place to find great deals on electronics, books, clothing and more. It’s a shopping experience literally like no other.

More traditional bargain-hunting can be found at Mountain Top Flea Market in Attalla and Santuck Flea Market near Wetumpka, which offer a seemingly endless array of fascinating goods. Discerning collectors will find plenty of fine furnishings, rare books and collectible glassware at Railroad Station Antique Mall in historic downtown Huntsville, as well.

Specialty Shops

Small towns and downtowns are the perfect spots for finding hidden Alabama treasures.

The warm, vintage-inspired collection at the Billy Reid store is a shopping experience not to be missed. The award-winning clothing designer is a favorite to celebs like Reese Witherspoon and Jon Hamm. And though Billy Reid shops can now be found from New York to Texas, true fashionistas prefer the quirky elegance at the original shop in downtown Florence.

Another North Alabama icon is the century-old U.G. White Mercantile in Athens, where you can step back in time and browse a sprawling array of cast iron cookware, rugged hats, pocketknives and even a slab of Alabama Kudzu Bar Soap.

In downtown Mobile, many old buildings have been restored and turned into boutiques, art galleries and restaurants. Directly across the bay, Fairhope offers a unique landscape ideal for exploring art-filled boutiques and shops laden with homemade candies and jellies, antiques and more.

Tucked in the heart of Cullman is A Touch of German, offering a variety of old-country items including dolls, clocks and steins. If you like that, you’ll love the Mulberry District, one of Montgomery's historic shopping areas, and the nearby Governor's Mansion Gift Shop, which boasts an impressive line of Alabama-made products. In Camden, Black Belt Treasures is a storehouse for artwork and many one-of-a-kind products. The Gourdie Shop in Mentone is the only hand-painted gourd shop of its kind in the U.S., while the Pillow Factory in Muscle Shoals and Tuscumbia provides the ultimate experience when shopping for goose-down bedding.

Outlet Malls

Boaz, which boasts two outlet malls, Factory Stores of America and Boaz Plaza Center, has long been synonymous with outlet shopping. But many more discount locations have opened across the state in recent years. Whether you’ve chosen the newcomer outlet, Shops of Grand River in Leeds, which opened in 2010, or the Tanger Outlet Center in Foley, you’re sure to find a great deal of savings on all your favorite brand names.
