What to See & Do

Cold War Exhibit

January 01, 2013 to December 31, 2013

In April 2012, the Southern Museum of Flight acquired two Soviet-era aircraft - the Mi-24 Hind and the An-2 Colt. The Mi-24 Hind is currently on display in the South Wing. The Mi-24 is one of the most iconic relics of the Soviet war in Afghanistan. This multipurpose helicopter was designed as a helicopter gunship for attack purposes, as well as for low-capacity troop transport. It will serve as a focal point for the new Cold War Era Exhibit in the museum's South Wing. Learn the intriguing story of this helicopter's journey from the former Soviet Union to the Southern Museum of Flight. See our restoration team and exhibit designers in work as they reassemble the helicopter inside our working aircraft hangar. The exhibit will be under development throughout 2013.
