Splash Around in Alabama

June 2022

Temperatures in the summertime can be sweltering in Alabama. When those temps soar, Alabama has many ways to beat that summer heat! Here are five ways to cool off:

Point Mallard Park

Decatur

Located in Decatur, Alabama’s River City, Point Mallard Park is home to America’s first wave pool. The pool was built in the 1970s after the mayor of Decatur saw an inside wave-making pool in Germany and thought that it would be a great tourist attraction for the United States. Located in the Point Mallard Aquatic Center,  this 180-foot wave-making pool gives visitors a thrill ride. Visitors also will find a Pro Bowl Slide, Towering Sky Pond and Speed Slide, Lazy River, three Flume Tube Rides, an Olympic Pool, Sandy Beach, a scenic lagoon and a children’s area featuring the Squirt Factory & Duck Pond.

Red Bay Water Park

Red Bay

The Red Bay Family Fun Park includes a pavilion, picnic areas, a skateboard park and a playground area located next to the Water Park.  The Hoyt Keeton Walking Trail also is located in the park and is a quarter-mile paved path that circles the park.

Spring Valley Beach Water Park

Blountsville

This water park is located approximately 60 miles north of Birmingham, off U.S. Highway 231 in Blountsville. Spring Valley Beach is nestled on 25 acres making for a perfect getaway adventure for the whole family. It is the only water park in the southeast where you can bring your own picnic basket and grill into the park. There’s free parking and you’ll even get a free bottle of sunscreen with admission. The park has more than 20 gazebos and pavilion areas, 10 thrilling water slides, the Southeast's largest pool  and a huge kid’s water playground.

Alabama Adventure & Splash Adventure

Bessemer

Alabama Splash Adventure combines an amusement and water park for fun-filled water experiences. This park has a wave pool, a free-fall water flume, a splash pad,  a lazy river and water slides. New this season will be the addition of the Rocket Racer water slide.

Our final way to cool off is meant to whet your appetite! After splashing around the water parks, take a trip to one of the best ice cream markets in the South!

Durbin Farms Market

Clanton

Durbin farms has some of the best homemade ice cream made with Alabama’s freshest fruit. Located in Clanton off of I-65, it has been a family favorite since 1938. Visitors rave about the peach ice cream, which is on Alabama’s 100 Dishes to Eat.
