Waverly Local

If you’re looking for a unique dining experience, head down Highway 280 to Waverly. The Waverly Local is a new restaurant located in one of Alabama’s first Ford dealerships, now filled with culinary life. The current hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. They are hoping to start serving brunch in the upcoming spring on Saturdays and Sundays. The Waverly Local has been described as “seasonally inspired, simple southern fare amidst mid-century modern decor in a beautifully repurposed garage setting.” Chef Christian Watson is an Auburn native and discovered his love for culinary arts while tending his family farm growing up. The Local has been a longtime ambition of his, as he has worked alongside his lifelong friend and Waverly resident Andy Anderson to implement this Alabama concept. Watson has trained under and worked alongside some of the country’s top chefs, and has served as an executive chef at the Pine Creek Sporting Club, where he was published in Annie Faulks “Palm Beach Entertaining” as well as serving as executive chef of “Carter’s Kitchen” under his mentor Chef Robert Carter. He later returned to his childhood home in 2015 and took the position of executive chef at the local Auburn restaurant, The Hound. They currently have a revolving beer list featuring various local craft brews, wine by the glass or bottle, as well as a full-service bar. Various items on the menu include a daily gulf offering, half smoked chicken, bacon wrapped Wickle’s okra, dirty rice fritters, and roasted heirloom pork. The roasted heirloom pork has been deemed as an item on the menu that is a “must-try,” served with butterbean dumplings and stewed greens. The menu comes from southern roots and has a variety of dishes, including a kids menu. There is something for every member of the family in this creative new dining experience. Most notably, known for the 280 Boogie, the town of Waverly is charming, with a population of around 150 people. It encompasses 3 square miles and sits on the edge of Lee, Chambers, and Tallapoosa counties. Part of what makes The Local so unique is that they are a “Tri-County Kitchen.” Reservations can be made using the Open Table or by visiting this link, https://www.opentable.com/r/the-waverly-local-waverly.
