Capital City Shape Note Singing

Capital City Shape Note Singing

Jul 20th 20239:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Since the 1980s, the Alabama Center for Traditional Culture (a division of the Council on the Arts) and our partner, the Alabama Folklife Association, have held the annual singing on the third Thursday of July at Old Alabama Town in Montgomery.

These traditional singers perform from shape-note hymn books published in Alabama, including "The Sacred Harp." The daylong singing will be held in the Old Alabama Town Reception Center and is free and open to the public.

Please note: The committee for the Capital City Shape Note Singing, along with its sponsors, the Alabama State Council on the Arts, Old Alabama Town, and the Alabama Folklife Association, have canceled the 2022 event.
