Capital City Shape Note Singing

Capital City Shape Note Singing

July 18th, 20249:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Since the 1980s, the Alabama Center for Traditional Culture (a division of the Council on the Arts) and our partner, the Alabama Folklife Association, have held the annual singing on the third Thursday of July at Old Alabama Town. This event is free and open to the public.

These traditional singers perform from shape-note hymn books published in Alabama, including The Sacred Harp. The daylong singing will be held in the Old Alabama Town Loeb Reception Center, located at 301 Columbus Street in downtown Montgomery.

Bring a sack lunch or enjoy one of the many nearby restaurants for our noon break. For more information, contact Annemarie at 334-242-5155 or annemarie@arts.alabama.gov
